Barbara LaPalm.
singer, songwriter, recording artist.
A native of Buffalo, New York, discovered her talent to sing at a young age. As a little girl, Barbara would often steal away for hours - to a room and sing various songs that she heard her mother play on Sunday mornings. Songs by: Shirley Caesar and James Cleveland and other inspirational songs. It was evident that Barbara would feel inclined often to sing these songs as she relied on them to uplift her spirits and as she described: gave her a feeling of being in tuned with a higher presence.
In time, Barbara would have to adapt to the trials of life at an early age. It began when she lost both parents: Losing her mother at the tender age of 9 years old and her father at 12 years old. As a young girl, faced with many struggles, God lead Barbara and family to a small storefront Church in the community called "Deliverance Temple", COGIC. where the Pastor & family welcomed them with open arms. Here is where Barbara's spiritual roots were planted in God, Still Inspired to sing melodies unto the Lord, at the age of 12 Barbara began singing publicly with her church choir and this helped to develop her "God given talent" to sing. Barbara continued to cultivate her talent through the years, being influenced by such artists as: Tramaine Hawkins, Aretha Franklin, Natalie Cole and CeCe Winans. The work of these phenomenal artists continue to inspire her with confidence to use her gift as a natural soprano soloist. Barbara moved on to professional opportunities, singing with various Gospel Ensembles, One of which was with "The Ted Johnson Gospel Singers" to perform for a N.Y. weekly viewed television talk show…“Ted's Gospel World”; later joining a contemporary gospel group called "The Children of Love" where she traveled, performed and received her “recording” experience, with Producer: Brandon Vilsaint- Paris.
Barbara accepted a great employment opportunity to relocate to Washington D.C. Making the move was positive, as it has allowed her to broaden her horizons. Barbara, a two time Cancer Survivor, shares her testimony and inspiring message (of God’s Healing) through her songs; Channeling through many trials, gives her inspiration as a writer. Barbara received experience collaborating with various music producers which has also attributed to her song writing skills. She continues to be a blessing to all who hear her message in song as she travels in out of state - as well as internationally.
